It would be great if you document your experiences in detail! I think you are exactly what we are looking for here: a motivated beginner.
I switched from MacOS to linux some two years ago, so maybe I can be of some help. Why don't you get an iBook G3? I think you can still find them (maybe second-handed), and they are very cheap, as iBooks G4 entered the market some months ago. This way, you can gradually switch from MacOSX to linux, as you slowly get things fixed. The double-boot is a breeze in Apple hardware, thanks to graphical openfirmware (you can use a bootloader, but you don't really need one!). As an added bonus, it is very likely that you find a HOWTO for your specific model (as I got for my iBook G4). You can even get the kernel compilation options pre-configured for you, and compile your kernel (succesfully!) without a clue (like I did). -- 4lex 07:30, 15 Jun 2004 (EDT)
