User talk:Hairylarry
From Grokdoc
I hope this will eventually get cleared up. On the Main Page, I can read something about "Our goal is to create a useful manual on basic tasks that new users will find simple and clear and easy to follow, using what we learn from our study." This seems to indicate that, besides from the usability study, the writing of procedures and beginners manuals is adequate. On the other hand, as I edit this page, I read "GrokDoc is meant to be a Linux usability study, not a general Linux repository for HOWTO's and tutorials. Please read the instructions before submitting an article. After we have finished the study, we will ask you for your help in solving the problems we find users are having. In the meantime, feel free to submit any how tos or tutorials to the LinuxQuestions.org Wiki or the Linux Documentation Project."
I think usability studies should go to grokdoc and manuals to LQWiki. Discussion about usability studies should go to discussion pages in grokdoc, and discussions about manuals should go to discussion pages in LQWiki. I also think that a very intimate collaboration is needed between grokdoc and the LQWiki. The problem is, this ideas I get mainly out of my uninformed ass ;)
It would be great if the admins clarify all this mess as soon as possible. :)

I guess I'll put my own 2 cents up on my own talk page.
I think it's very difficult to talk about usability studies seperate from the documentation. Where we need to head is towards usability studies of users assisted only by our documentation. Usability studies of linux in general will be too broad and will not lead to improved documents.
I think when short documents are ready they should be cross posted to LQWiki with requests for further usability studies to be posted to grokdoc.
In other words I see the documents as the goal and the usability studies as a way to reach that goal.
