A client is a tool that talks to a server on your behalf. The word client is also used to qualify more general terms, for example, a client computer is a computer on which a client is expected to be present. Just to confuse you, we often talk about "client computers" as merely "clients".

A typical client program is a web browser (like Mozilla or Internet Explorer) or an email program, such as Evolution.

If you are migrating from Windows, then take a look at the Application Crossover Chart for information about alternatives for your familiar client tools and other programs.
