Here's a problem I had using YaST setting up my firewall and getting IP Forwarding to work. When installing my network devices, modem and ethernet card, I found several checkboxes that said Enable Firewall and a checkbox that said Enable IP Forwarding. I somehow thought that this would make things work. I think I was actually working with a default "Personal Firewall". The actual firewall setup is under Security and Users in YaST. When I ran that setup it replaced the "Personal Firewall" with a more advanced firewall.
