This is the GrokSaurus intro page.

GrokSaurus helps you to find the proper words for all the things you see and observe using your computer. If you do not know how a thing or a program or a procedure to follow is called, usually it is difficult to find more information about it. Example. You need the proper name to look things up. GrokSaurus is here to help you find the right words.

Please try whatever seems to be the best word to describe the item. If anybody ever used the same description, and found out what it should have been called, and submitted his solution here to GrokSaurus, you will get that information. If you are the first to try that word, please come back later on, when you've found a solution or a hint towards the proper name related to your word, and tell GrokSaurus so we can build up a rich resource. Please follow the Rules to play.

Note: This is not ready now and does not exactly work as it should. For a first test, we will handle GrokSaurus pages the following way: to get a GrokSaurus page rather than a GrokDoc page simply add 'GrokSaurus:' as a prefix to your word like this : GrokSaurus:word. For example, below, in the Find box, type GrokSaurus:mousepad.

GrokSaurus words we would like to include:

  • Words that are completely off topic. They may be used by somebody who does not remember exactly after what rodent species the pointing device next to his computer was named: Rat, Squirrel.
  • Near misses, words that are close to or related to the item that was meant originally, such as a newbie calling their monitor a TV, or words used in a specific tech context that would lead to a very different explanation if looked up in a normal dictionary that lacked definitions of technical words. Mousepad , TV. Near misses also include terms like Red Hat, Redhat, Red hat, which have several flavors, one of which is preferred. If you want to use the preferred form, you can use any form to look up the preferred form.
  • Not knowing the right word forces the user to use a more generic, unspecific word. If it is unspecific enough, it won't help any more. thing

Any word that did not occur before should lead to this place: Unknown Word
